Preventive care is essential for keeping dogs healthy, and one of the most important vaccines we provide is DAPP. This core vaccine protects dogs from several highly contagious and potentially life-threatening diseases.

What is DAPP?

DAPP is a combination vaccine that protects against four serious canine diseases:

  • Distemper (D): A viral disease that affects a dog’s respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. It can be fatal, especially in puppies.
  • Adenovirus-2 (A): Protects against canine infectious hepatitis and respiratory infections.
  • Parvovirus (P): A highly contagious virus causing severe vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration — often fatal without prompt treatment.
  • Parainfluenza (P): A respiratory virus often contributing to kennel cough.

Because these viruses are highly contagious and can be life-threatening, vaccination is the most effective way to protect your dog.

Vaccination Schedule

  • Puppies: Begin DAPP series at 6 to 8 weeks of age, with boosters every 3 to 4 weeks until at least 16 weeks old.
  • Adult dogs: Dogs with unknown or incomplete vaccine history should receive a series of two doses, 3 to 4 weeks apart.
  • Booster doses: After completing the puppy series, DAPP boosters are typically given every 1 to 3 years depending on your dog’s risk factors and vaccine type.

Your veterinarian will create a schedule tailored to your dog’s age, lifestyle, and exposure risk.

Why DAPP is Essential

DAPP protects dogs from life-threatening diseases such as distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus. Vaccinating your dog also helps prevent outbreaks in communities, kennels, and other dog congregations by reducing the spread of these viruses. In addition, DAPP is often administered alongside routine wellness exams, giving your veterinarian an opportunity to monitor your dog’s overall health.

At Vets to Pets

We prioritize safe, effective vaccination protocols for every dog that comes through our doors. DAPP is considered a core vaccine for all dogs, both puppies and adults alike.  Staying up to date not only keeps your dog healthy but also helps protect the wider canine community. Remember, prevention is always better than treatment when it comes to these serious diseases. Ask us about your dog’s vaccine history and make sure your dog is current on DAPP!
