At Vets to Pets, we do things differently—and your pet feels the difference from the moment we arrive. As a mobile veterinary clinic, we bring compassionate, top-quality care right to your door, where your pet feels safest. But we don’t stop there.

We’re also incredibly proud to be the first practice to complete the soon to be released Fear Free Certified Veterinary Practice – House Call Standards program. That means every part of our visit is thoughtfully designed to prevent stress, fear, and anxiety—for your pet and for you.

So what exactly do we do behind the scenes (and in your living room) to make our visits truly Fear Free®? Here’s a peek into our process.

1. Preparation Starts Before We Arrive

Fear Free® care begins before we even meet your pet. When you book your appointment, we ask detailed questions about your pet’s personality, past experiences, and known stress triggers. That helps us personalize every visit.

In some cases, we’ll recommend pre-visit pharmaceuticals—safe, vet-prescribed medications or supplements that take the edge off anxiety. They’re especially helpful for pets with previous trauma or chronic stress at vet visits.

2. A Gentle, Thoughtful Arrival

When we get to your home, we don’t come in all at once, and we don’t rush. We approach slowly and calmly, giving your pet time to get used to our presence.

We also use:

  • Pheromone sprays (like Feliway™ for cats and Adaptil™ for dogs) on ourselves and our tools to help reduce stress from the start.
  • Low, soothing voices and calm body language—no raised voices or sudden movements.
Our entire team is trained to read subtle signs of anxiety and adapt in the moment.

3. High-Value Treats & Positive Reinforcement

Your pet is never just “getting through” a visit with us—we work hard to make it enjoyable.

That’s why we come armed with your pet’s favorite high-value treats, and we reward relaxed behaviors throughout the visit. Whether it’s a peanut butter lick mat for your pup or squeeze-up treats for your cat, we make good things happen every step of the way.

This isn’t bribery—it’s behavior shaping, backed by science. Your pet starts to associate us with snacks, praise, and comfort – not fear.

4. Comfort Tools Designed for Stress-Free Handling

For cats who need extra reassurance, we use tools like the Calm & Cozy™ cat wrap—a gentle, secure wrap that reduces struggling and helps your pet feel snug and safe, almost like swaddling a baby.

We also keep our exam area flexible. If your dog prefers to be examined lying on their bed, or your cat wants to stay in the bottom half of their carrier, we adapt. Always.

5. We Know When to Pause—or Try Again Another Day

One of the most important parts of Fear Free® care is knowing when to say, “Let’s not push it.” If a pet becomes too stressed, we pause, take a break, or even reschedule if needed. Their emotional well-being comes first—every time.

Fear Free® Is More Than a Method. It’s Our Mission.

Being the first clinic to meet the Fear Free Certified Veterinary Practice – House Call Standards isn’t just a title—it reflects our deep commitment to changing the way pets experience care.

Because when your pet feels safe, everything else falls into place: better exams, more accurate diagnostics, and a stronger bond between you, your pet, and your veterinary team.
